Competition for the 2015 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart Now Opens for Enrollment - 2015.06.29

The 2015 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart will be held on October 1-3 at Exhibition Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center. This three-day invention show is expected to draw over 80,000 domestic and foreign buyers and visitors.
This year’s event features the Invention Area to showcase new products and the Technology Transaction Area to facilitate transaction of technologies. In addition, there is an invention contest where winning entries from all categories that have won gold, silver, and bronze medals compete for the highest honor—the INST Platinum Award. Two MOUs on PPH MOTTAINAI and on Exchange of Industrial Property Information and PDX Signed between Taiwan and Korea - 2015.06.18

The Taipei Mission in Korea and the Korean Mission in Taipei signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) on June 15, 2015, to establish collaboration on Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) MOTTAINAI program, exchange of industrial information and electronic exchange of priority documents between TIPO and KIPO. The two MOUs can benefit applicants with expedited examination procedures and allow the public to access industrial property information exchanged between the two offices.
For years, TIPO has been committed to broadening its international collaboration and exchanges. This year, the office is breaking new grounds with KIPO in terms of establishing a mechanism for dialogues and a collaborative relation. Earlier in February, Director General Wang Mei-hua was invited to KIPO and met with former Commissioner Kim Young-min to exchange views on respective trends in IP development and collaboration. The two heads of office reached consensus on PPH collaboration, exchange of industrial property information, and electronic exchange of priority documents. TIPO Statistics Report: Patent and Trademark Applications in 2014 - 2015.04.10

In 2014, TIPO received a total of 78,014 patent applications (6.2% less than 2013) and 46,378 invention patent applications (a near 10% drop, or 4,811 applications less, in two years). In trademark, applications (75,933) saw a 2.6% increase. TIPO sees the trend is moving toward the direction where government agencies, the industries, and academia have now focused their attention on utilizing limited resources to optimize patent quality and value.
Compared to 2013, the number of invention (46,378), utility model (23,488), and design patent applications (8,148) saw an overall decrease (Figure 1). This overall drop was mainly caused by a 12.3% slump in invention applications (19,054, or -2,676) filed by Taiwan nationals, with the total number of invention applications concluded at a -5.8% (-2,840) dip (Figure 2). Invention applications filed by Taiwan nationals saw a three-year decline (19%), hitting the lowest point in ten years. In all, corporations’ shifting emphasis on patent quality, as well as budget cut in government funding to academic and research institutes, who are now becoming conservative patent applicants, may have contributed to declining invention applications
